National Novena 2017: 14th—22nd August 2017. We will have our Novena here in the Church of the Risen Christ after Mass each day .

IMPORTANT NOTICE: From January 1st 2018, due to the large volume of requests for weekend masses, the first weekend of each month will be a Shared Mass. This is in keeping with the common practice of other Parishes.

 Mass of the Angels: We invite you to join us in Ss. Peter & Pauls Church, Athlone,

for the annual Mass of the Angels on Wednesday August 23rd 2017 at 7.30 pm. This Mass is an opportunity to acknowledge, remember and pray for all babies / children who have died at any stage of life. We will have a helium balloon release after the mass. Those who have lost a baby / child will have the opportunity to write a message on their balloon prior to all being released together. Please let anyone you feel might benefit from attending the mass know. All are welcome no matter how long it is since the death of your baby / child.

Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock: Bishop Kevin will lead the annual diocesan pilgrimage to Knock on Sunday 20th August.  The pilgrimage begins with Anointing of the Sick at 2.30pm in the Basilica and Mass at 3pm.

Knock Shrine – National Novena 2017: Join us for nine days of reflection and prayer for the National Novena to Our Lady of Knock from the 14th-22nd August. Ceremonies will take place daily at 3pm and 8.30pm with daily guest speakers and workshops to enrich and enliven your faith.  Handel’s Messiah – Knock Shrine: Saturday 18th November at 7.30pm sees the return of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra to present Handel’s ‘iconic’ Messiah at Knock Basilica. Conducted by Proinnsías Ó Duinn with soloists, Soprano Claudia Boyle, Alto Anne Marie Gibbons, Tenor Julian Hubbard and Bass Christopher Cull together with Our Lady’s Choral Society, Cór Mhaigh Eo and Ballina Chamber Choir.  Presented by Liz Nolan, RTE lyric fm.  Tickets available now at and at the Witness to Hope office Knock Shrine and Downtown Records Castlebar & Westport.

Interested in becoming a Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Elphin?: The Diocese of Elphin is now accepting applications from married and single men who may feel called to ministry as Permanent Deacons. The four year part-time training programme will begin in Autumn 2017. The Youth 2000 annual Summer Festival: will take place from 17th to 20th  August 2017 in the Cistercian College, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary.  This is a donation only Catholic festival for young people aged 16-35.  Free buses from all over Ireland.  More info on

 Samaritan Church Gate Collection: Athlone Samaritans would like to thank everyone who gave so generously to their recent Church Gate Collection. Total collected €345. A sincere thanks also to those collectors who gave so willingly and freely of their time.

 GERRY O’MALLEY MEMORIAL MONUMENT DRAW: Raffle took place recently on Pattern Sunday. Charlie Finneran (chairman) would like to thank all who attended, the sponsors and all who sold tickets to make the draw such a huge success. He feels it would be only fitting to remember those who purchased tickets over the last six months who sadly are no longer with us. Thank you to his own committee for all their efforts and commitment to the project and now that the fundraising target has been reached they would not be accepting any more sponsorship or donations.
